Summary

All 18 episodes of the BBC Radio series featuring bickering detective duo Trueman and Riley

DI Trueman and DS Riley are reluctant partners in crime-fighting, paired up after high-flyer Trueman suffered a nervous breakdown that left him struggling to get back on his feet. Working with Riley isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered – but the sergeant turns out to be much more of a help than a hindrance when it comes to cracking cases.

First broadcast as Trueman in 2002, the pilot episode centres around a student found shot dead next to a bag of cocaine. Renamed Trueman and Riley, Series 1 opens with the detectives relocated from Hull to Leeds, where they probe a man’s disappearance en route to a secret new job in Vanished.

Written by BAFTA-winning dramatist Brian B Thompson, this smart, entertaining crime drama stars Robert Daws as Trueman and Duncan Preston as Riley.

Gentle Northern Genius

Having listened to episodes on BBC sounds it was to my great delight the whole series is here on Audible. These two characters are so well written & acted & the gentle humour & social comment interweaves seamlessly without you even realising. More please, otherwise I’m going to miss them!

Took me a while to get into this one

But well worth persevering The cases themselves aren't particularly exciting but the banter between our two detectives is excellent. An enjoyable listen.

Great bedtime listening.

Not over dramatic,,,,just solid Northern mysteries for all to enjoy. The relationship between Trueman and Riley is both amusing and touching. The stories are simple and believable and they provoke thought into human nature. Not just for us up North...a great listen for Southerners alike!!!! A grand Audio book.

Amusing cosy crime

Good banter between the two main characters. Did begin to lose its sparkle towards the end of the series but enjoyable non the less. The episodes were cut down to 27 minutes a few episodes into the series which I think was about the right length. Well acted.

Great series

Really enjoyed the build up of the relationship between Trueman and Riley. Duncan Preston remains a joy, especially with a cheeky reference to Dinner Ladies. Thoroughly enjoyable and great value for the whole set. Loved it

Excellent Crime Stories

This series is highly entertaining and fantastically performed by Robert Daws and Duncan Preston. Their characters are both police and each episode has a different crime to solve. There's humour, poignancy and the world of work and friendships. Each episode is under an hour, which is just a perfect amount of time.
Brian B. Thompson is known for Byker Grove and he has also done a great job in writing Trueman and Riley, bringing their lives, both working and personal together to create these entertaining episodes. Even though there is much humour, there are also some pretty hard-hitting themes too. This is most definitely worth a listen.
