About this listen
I mainly wrote this book because I wanted to share the love story Twix and I have. Twix is my soul-mate and means more to me than anything in this world. He might be a border collie, but we have a connection and an incredible relationship, unlike anything I had ever experienced before Twix came into my life. Twix had emergency herniated disc surgery after a frisbee accident on Sept 24, 2016, and it took me five years to write this book. Partially because I never felt like I was a writer and honestly did not know where to start, I didn't give up on my dream as I felt the need to share this never-told story. Writing is difficult for me, and I found this book especially challenging to write. It was hard for me because it was emotional and brutal to re-live all of the trauma Twix and I endured.
Whenever my fingers met my keyboard, I would sob as memories of Twix's accident and the obstacles throughout his rehabilitation process would flash before my dilapidated eyes. I believe the most heart-wrenching part was thinking back to our life before Twix's herniated disc and feeling heartbroken that all our dreams of competing and performing were flushed down the drain. Sure, we moved on, our dreams changed, and we found joy in living our day-to-day lives, but I mourned our old life together for quite some time until I wrote this book. When Twix got injured, I knew I had to share his story, our story.
The steadfast love for my boy drove me to work unbelievably hard to help Twix recover from his frisbee accident that resulted in emergency herniated disc surgery which left him paralyzed for weeks. I knew I had to help him run again. I had to do anything and everything I could for Twix, and I did. I did not have to research this book's topic because Twix and I lived it. However, I did have to explore ways to help Twix through rehabilitation with the help of expert physical therapists, using canine physical therapy books, the internet, and watching YouTube videos on canine conditioning.
Ultimately, Twix, the love of my life, is my motivation and inspiration for writing this book!
