Summary
His lordship requires an expert in human behaviour to prevent the egg-throwing Duke of Dunstable from stealing Emsworth's treasured pig, Empress of Blandings. The plot's eccentricities naturally include love and romance and, crucially, three imposters. Add to the cocktail some 'Mickey Finn's', a brace of financially embarrassed nephews and a private investigator, 'Mustard Pott'.
As the mixture boils there are shot guns in the night time - plus redoubtable Lady Constance, Emsworth's sister, who could halt a cavalry charge merely with her voice. A happy and appropriate ending is of course on the cards.

Pip, Pip & Tinkety Tonk, Old Bean!
Another great Blandings book narrated by the superlative Martin Jarvis. I was a little surprised that the there is a one & a half hour mystery novel added to the end. It doesn’t seem to be mentioned anywhere in the advertising but was also pretty good although not narrated by Martin.

You will probably know whether PG appeals to you. Martin Jarvis does a beautiful dramatic reading.

Wonderful performance of a classic Wodehouse
What other book might you compare Uncle Fred In The Springtime to, and why?
Nothing compares to Wodehouse. Other Wodehouse books maybe?
What about Martin Jarvis’s performance did you like?
Real commitment to the characters. Brilliant voices - like listening to a full cast performance.

The last hour and a half of the download is something else (Murder by someone or other) - I didn't listen to it, and it was a real surprise when the book suddenly ended and a new story started. It's not mentioned in the cover blurb so seems to be some sort of mistake (?)

For the Woodhouse Nut
This is an okay tale of a beloved character in his 'off stage' existence. The Empress is the centre of an intrigue mixed up with the livelihoods of many a young buck and a fine romp it is. For the Woodhouse afficienado; a casual reader might well be puzzled as understanding of the world inhabited by the players is assumed, rather in the way an episode of a soap only makes sense if you already watch regularly.
Martin Jarvis is an exceptional narrator enlivening anything he touches. Here, his virtuousity is displayed in making a lot of ultra posh men distinctive!!!
