Summary
The Sunday Times bestseller
Every town has its ugly little secrets...
From the outside, the house in Lakeview Terrace looks perfect and the Bigelows seem like the perfect family: the respected surgeon father, the glamorous, devoted mother and two beautiful children. A perfect family, in a perfect house living their perfect lives.
But perfect surfaces can hide dark undercurrents and behind closed doors lies a very different story. Teenager Zane and his younger sister, Britt, are terrorised by their violent father and dysfunctional mother. Too afraid to speak out, Zane does his best to protect his sister and counts the days until they can finally be free.
One dark, brutal night when their father's temper takes a horrifying turn for the worse, the perfect façade is exposed for the lie it is and Zane and Britt manage to escape. With the help of their beloved aunt, they rebuild their lives a day at a time, creating new families and putting their past behind them. But a childhood like that can cast a shadow the length of a lifetime. Can Zane and Britt ever be free of their past? Or will those dark undercurrents rise to the surface, forcing them to fight for their lives once again...
Critic reviews
"[Under Currents] is brilliantly plotted and unrelentingly propulsive. It is a beautifully written story about the fragility of life and the power of the past and the need to fight back... a highly recommended novel for this summer." (The Washington Book Review)
"...full of powerful, magnetic characters." (Publishers Weekly)

Should have been a couple chapters shorter!
Harrowing story but I Struggled a little with the descriptive chapters of this book as they droned on and brought nothing to the storyline. This book would have been a great platform for the wonderful work Therapist/Counsellors do for abused children and adults. Unfortunately Roberts glanced over this where the kids were concerned and never mentioned anything about counselling being offered to the parents whilst they were in prison, especially as the mother needed to realise just how unhealthy her relationship was.
The Narrative was excellent as always from January LaVoy, the male voices were believable. I just feel that the book could have been a little shorter as not all your readers will know (or want to know) about shrubs and flowers Ms Roberts.

Nice listen
I think January LaVoy is a wonderful narrator. Nice characters, good story, not much romance (which is good) and what there is was pertinent, but there was one eye roll when someone was “pulled onto his lap”! Do women do that? I’m as romantic as the next guy (women) but please, maybe it’s because I’m very tall! I know, I digress!

Couldn’t put it down
Drove my husband bonkers as constantly listening to this book. Loved the main characters and constantly praying for a happy ending. Although hard to imagine so much grief and pain happening to one family the book was a great listen amd narrator superb.

Great Listen
Always love listening to Nora Roberts stories and this one was gripping from start to finish. The Narrator brought the characters to life and made this a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

A lovely long listen
This is another cracking story. It has elements of other books, the author’s obvious love of gardens and dogs, and her enjoyment of small town America. The way she writes about these communities makes me want to up sticks and move countries! There were lots of storylines, but they all converged in the end. The characters were mostly believable, although sometimes the good are a bit too good to be true. Nora certainly knows how to suck the listener into the world she has created. The narrator was excellent as always.

Good, but with an obvious plot twist
I loved the book; I loved the characters, I found the subject to be relevant to today's society (in general).
But, unfortunately, I saw the villain "coming a mile away".

Not Bad
A good listen but I found the "good" guys way too perfect and one dimensional while the "bad" were guys over the top evil. The narrator was really excellent.
