Summary

The story tells of a magical and adventurous quest undertaken by two friends below the earth, through portals to new Realms, meeting allies in the form of creatures to help outwit the evil foes encountered on their journey. This is the first in a series for middle grade children and above.

The pair soon meet two of the Earthlie children and explore their amazing and ingenious treehouse homes; learning about their extraordinary lives. Quinn is nine years old; he is strong, brave and has magical skills. His younger sister Vita is soon to turn eight and anticipates the accompanying Scholar ceremony on that same date. Like all Earthlie children at age eight their true Scholar nature is revealed and they join one of the schools to help develop their skills and attributes.

When Maggie and James are invited to return, they hear of a calamitous occurrence. Vita and her best friend, Archer, have been caught by The Snatcher. They are taken through a portal to The Realm of The Grimms; an evil band of ogres. The Grimms are huge and are revoltingly grubby, mean and dull. They treat the youngsters as menial slaves; their only hope is to escape but even then they will have to negotiate the Dark Wilds filled with strange and usual creatures.

Maggie, Quinn, and James set out to rescue the two friends in time to return for the Scholar ceremony. An adventurous rescue ensues which tests their nerves and skills. The three encounter The Wild Bandits and meet some allies en route to Argatron, the capital city of the Realm.

Will they be successful and manage to return home in time for the all-important Scholar ceremony?

Underground Adventure review

I got this audiobook as a promo , so it's not the normal book I would buy my self, The below the green books are good kids adventure book series aimed at both girls and boy and follows the adventures of Maggie and James and their new friends the ‘Earthlie’ children and help out fighting off the monsters from the land of Grimm, for parents theres nothing new to listen to or read in the storys, but for under 7s, I think the series of titles would be a big hit with them and would make a great gift book for Christmas for any younger reader who likes to listen to audiobooks on there own or with paperback or kindle version of the books, excellent music which helps to dramatise the adventures and a perfect friendly English accent delivered by Karren Ascoe reminding me of the old children's television series Jackanory style of storytelling on the BBC,
pretty good children books worth buying

A fantastic adventure for any 8 to 12 year old

Underground Adventure - Under the green
I listened to the story on Audible first then bought a copy for Kindle...

The book is the first of a series and begins Maggie and James’s extraordinary journey into a bizarre and fascinating world that is right under their feet... Meeting Quinn and Vita, two young Earthlie children, James and Maggie are soon caught up in a quest to rescue Vita and her friend from the gruesome Ogres.

The author weaves a fantasy, full of strange and at times gruesome creatures. Peril isn’t far away, and as their journey progresses the youngsters are faced with some difficult choices... It has all the elements of a quest – saving themselves and their new friends whilst learning so much about themselves...

Written with humour, a steady flow of interesting characters, the story builds to a good crescendo.

I would suggest it’s a book for a confident reader but one that any 8-12 year old would consume rapidly and come back wanting more!

So exciting!

We played this in the classroom and the children gave it 5 stars. We loved all of it and especially the brilliant escape, the tree houses, the dramatic rescue and when they flew on Pontus and Thalassus. The colour ceremony was an exciting end. Our favourite characters are Vince and the Snug and also Imari, Archer, Quinn, Vita, Maggie and James, so basically all of the main characters and Storrm of course! We excited about book 2 Scholars to the Rescue.

Wonderful fiction for young readers.

This is a high quality audio book which does justice to the excellent first book in the Underground Adventure series. Very easy to listen to with just the right balance of excitement, pace and adventure.
