About this listen
Untouched by Human Hands consists of 13 stories of beings who dwell on the strange borders of reality. Some of these stories tell of people you know or of events that might happen - but haven't yet. Some will take you to the furthermost reaches of the sky and to planets whose names are unknown this side of Arcturus. And some - perhaps the richest and most memorable of these stories - open into the interior of strange minds to reveal the reflection of ourselves.
This classic collection consists of the following short stories:
- "The Monsters"
- "Cost of Living"
- "The Altar"
- "Shape"
- "The Impacted Man"
- "Untouched by Human Hands"
- "The King's Wishes"
- "Warm"
- "The Demons"
- "Specialist"
- "Seventh Victim"
- "Ritual"
- "Beside Still Waters"

Fantastic listen
Short stories are a real art, so to be able to pull the listener in every time is an extraordinary feat. I’m new to sheckley’s work but so far I’m really impressed. Science fiction with just a dash of wry humour. Perfect

Great Stories
Lost of really great stories here. The only story I didn’t really enjoy was ‘The Alter’, the third story; this was partially because the narration by Harlan Ellison was hard to understand. The narration of the other stories by Stefan Rudnicki and Gabrielle de Cuir was great.
The addition of story names in the chapter menu would improve it, but they are in the same order as they are listed on the summary, so you can find a story if you need.
Sometimes the jump from one story to the next is a bit sudden, as it basically just goes from the last line of one to the title of the next and then start the story. I’ve known other audiobooks to have a short music bit between stories and that would be good to break it up. Also introducing the narrator of each individual story would help.
I would recommend when listening to take a short break after the end of each story to let one sink in, and to prevent the stories from getting confused.

Wonderful discovery
Written in 1954 - the year I was born - these stories may well have the answers to all the questions I have been asking throughout my 67.25 years on this Earth, thank you Audible.

The Main Man in Sci-Fi
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend all Robert Sheckley's work to anyone interested in science fiction history. His work is very much of its time - 50's/60's - but retains much style and character despite the humour being rather dated now.
Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy owes everything to this man's work.

A good collection.
Some terrific short stories here. My first contact with Sheckley and likely not my last. If you enjoy SF and/or short stories this is definitely a good listen.
I can sometimes find deep voices hard going, but something about Stefan Rudnicki’s voice doesn’t grate on me, I’m pleased to say. I shan’t hesitate to listen to him again. The other readers were good as well.

Invest the time and you shouldn't be disappointed
A careful listen as there are parts of the themes that are applied to a different time and circumstance, not always easy but use your imagination. One needs to concentrate or threads within the stories may be lost. But do this and you won't regret it. Familiar themes but in different environments.
Now, I must practice my, 'You haven't bought a drink yet' dance, always a hit with the kids. Listen and you'll get it.
