About this listen
Douglas Petersen’s family is on the brink of dissolution. His marriage of 21 years to Connie is almost over. When autumn comes around, their son Albie will leave for college. Connie has decided to leave soon after.
But before everything falls apart, there's still the summer holidays to get through - a Grand Tour of Europe's major cities - and over the course of the journey, Douglas devises a plan to win back the love of his wife and repair his troubled relationship with his son.

Lovely journey of a breakdown and repair of family
It was a lovely listen, the story I felt did take a while to get into but I am glad I continued as it was a very sweet novel - an easy listen but not particularly gripping, but very nice.

So much to identify with
Where does Us rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
top
Who was your favorite character and why?
Albie - because he reminded me that all teenage sons need to be understood and their anger is for a reason
Which character – as performed by Justin Salinger – was your favourite?
Kat - great characterisation and aussie accent " its the buffet police Mr P"
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
impossible - too long but certainly would have done in 3 or 4 if I could
Any additional comments?
So much to identify with if you met married and grew up relationship wise in the 90's and turn of the century. Sense of time and place - hedonism of an 80's and 90's London. Very moving - at times a portrait of a marriage, love , loss adustment, compromise. Also, account of black dog depressive personality and the impossible attraction of oppisites .Never clear cut sometimes I hated connie for choosing Doug in life to make herself feel better, and sometimes I was infurated by Doug for his sheer pedantry. I do think that Doug was depressed without realising it most of the time. But mostly this book moved me so much due to the very tough relationship between father and Son - so moving in parts. Sobering as a parent . .

Boring characters
The main character was too annoying and boring. I understood what the author wanted to get across but it was too much making the book boring and full of dribble. I was glad when it was the next chapter, I'm not sure what so much detail added to the book.

Looked forward to each instalment
This wa like being a fly on the wall of someone else's life. A rich tapestry of how two very different characters can make a relationship work and how they deal with it when one of them tires of all the compromises.
I thought the narrator was perfect for Douglas' character and it was like putting on an old pair of slippers when listening to it. I loved his character and wondered if there was maybe an underlying hint of autism / aspergers. The story was very profound in parts but also I found his observations highly amusing and also very poignant. I would highly recommend this audiobook and thought previous Critisism of the narrator very unfair. A gregarious, larger than life narrator would have done this book a huge disservice.

Narrators are all on audible and this one wasn't g
Where does Us rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Decent book and storyline I love the authors humour
Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Justin Salinger?
Dull, lifeless narration that missed any subtlety or humour in the book. Really spoils the book if the right person isn't easing it... it's not just about being able to read and articulate a book but having acting skills as well
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was disappointed initially as the ending emerged but then loved the final part. An extremely clever, thought provoking book with such skill at understanding relationships
Any additional comments?
Shame about narrator please choose wiser in future

Brilliant
I really loved this book, it was funny, sad, happy all at the same time. Very well read. I think the narrator really brought Douglas to life.
