About this listen

Suffolk UK, 2012. Knotweed is invasive and ugly—and so is murder in Suffolk. A body is found near the railway line in Needham Market, and Nick Cowley's phone goes missing. Could anyone have guessed the repercussions?

Another body is discovered, and police investigations follow tenuous trails from Bury St Edmunds to Woodbridge, Felixstowe, and beyond. Murky innuendo takes its toll, but is it sufficient motive for murder? Into this mix throw a turkey farm, winery, and a French flea market pot, and you have the ingredients for a perfect murder.

Nick, Chrissie, and Matt, friends since their Utterly Academy days, pull together as they face unpleasant truths and resolve their conflicting gut instincts. But hard evidence is required. How can they prove who the murderer is? Suspicion is not enough.

This is Book 5 in the Utterly Crime Series, and can be listened to as a standalone.

Another excellent Suffolk mystery

If you have read (or listened to) any of the Utterly books, you will already know the central characters, and the kind of scrapes they unwittingly get themselves into. If not, then you will enjoy meeting them and following their adventures in this, the fifth book of the series, now rendered into audio format by the voice(s) of Andy Deane.
The Suffolk countryside around the towns and villages of Stowmarket, Woolpit and Elmswell provides the well-depicted backdrop, and the familiar trio of friends leads us into the tale. This time it is Nick, carpenter and vocalist, who kicks things off by having his phone stolen at a gig, while Matt, the bumbling but handy computer nerd, stumbles upon a corpse in the bushes. Chrissie, always inquisitive, soon gets involved and friends and partners are drawn into the developing action and mystery. On the way we learn about antique ceramics, cabinet making, Japanese knotweed, wine production and internet search techniques, through the entertaining and convincing interactions of Pauline Manders' characters.
The pace builds gradually as the plot unfolds, and death by asphyxiation becomes a real fear for one of the friends. This is an engaging and entertaining audiobook, well-structured and professionally delivered. I greatly enjoyed it, and you will too!
