About this listen
Welcome to Valkyrie High School.... Time to Reap My First Soul.
The first law of the Valkyrie is "Don't fall in love." I messed that one up...big time. I failed my sisters and fell in love with William Johnson. I've watched him for three lifetimes and a little piece of me broke every time I had to let him die.
I paid the price for breaking the first law of the Valkyrie. I lost all the memories I had of Will. That's why Sam is keeping tabs on me. She's an ever-present shadow during my time at Mattsfield High. Sam is the perfect Valkyrie. Tall. Beautiful. Heartless.
I may not remember Will, but my heart does. If Freya thinks I’m going to be a good little Valkyrie this time around...she’s wrong.
Valkyrie Landing is the first in the highly-acclaimed series Valkyrie Allegiance. Ideal for listeners of strong heroines, urban fantasy themes, and a heavy dose of Norse Mythology (as well as a spaceship or two). You'll be blown away by this character-driven trilogy that'll take you all the way to Ragnarok, so hang on tight!
This is a complete series scheduled for rapid release, so be sure to follow the author and claim your copy!
Book 1: Valkyrie Landing
Book 2: Valkyrie Rebellion
Book 3: Valkyrie Uprising
Content Warning: This is a clean closed-door romance with lots of shirtless guys.

3.25 STARS ★★★✩✩
Can I interest you in some… futuristic Norse mythology? Then welcome to the world of valkyries. Obviously, for people who enjoy nitpicking mythological facts, this might not be the tea.
⤐ Overall.
What I noticed straight away was A.J's writing. It's typically not the overly prose-like writing of some hyper-artistic writer that get's my attention. They tend to lose themselves in their art which makes it hard for the reader to follow their true intention: narrating a story. For examples of such unnecessary prose look here and here. A. J. did a great job finding a way to tell an interesting story while making the best of the writing tools given to her. Just some elaborate vocabulary here, a witty phrase there and some exciting syntax in between and I'm a happy little reader.
Plot-wise, this was pretty much the Norse equivalent of a Greek Tragedy™. At first, the whole I saw him and I knew he was my soulmate narrative really put me off. As we unravel the background to this sentiment, however, I actually came to appreciate A.J.'S interpretation of a somewhat futuristic version of Norse mythology.
Without me actually noticing it, throughout the story, the characters wriggled their way into my heart as well. I got quite annoyed with them in the beginning but came to understand them and see them for what they are: old creatures with desires and flaws.
The only criticism I can truly bring to the table - and there must be some considering my rating - that the engagement rate wasn't exactly peaking at any point of the story.
⤐ What’s happening.
As a valkyrie, it is Val's job to find a soul and lead it to the afterlife, to life in Valhalla for eternity. But Val keeps finding herself in a sort of Groundhog Day situation: The soul she found and deemed to be hers forever ... she has met him before. And this time, Val's determined to not let anything keep her from loving Will. Not even Freya or Odin or past lovers-turned-best friends.

4 STARS. Would stay up beyond my typical hours to finish it. I found some minor details I didn't like, agree with or lacked in some kind but overall, this was enjoyable and extraordinary.
3 STARS. Decent read that I have neither strongly positive nor negative feelings about. Some thinks irked me and thus it does not qualify as exceptional.

Valkyrie YA Book!
This is a great YA book, I really enjoyed it. Val is sent to reap Will's soul before darkness takes it. When Val is sent to earth she realizes that this is not the first time she has met Will. She finds out that he has been reincarnated at least three times before, which means she has failed to reap his soul before. The first rule of the Valkyrie is don't fall in love. Val has already broke that rule. This is full of adventure. Will Val save Will in time? The cliffhanger leaves you wanting so much more. Can't wait to find out what happens next.
