Summary
New London: 2067
Britain struggles to rebuild after the crushing devastation of the Great Flood. Those in power have formed a new regime in the wake of the disaster. Whether it is a hard-won utopia or an oppressive nightmare depends entirely on gender. Unmarried women have no legal rights or protection, and their access to education and employment is limited to ensure their servitude. Yet a fire burns within them to prove they are far from the weaker sex, and their rebellion seeks to tear down the patriarchal rule.
Cerys and Gloria have very different dreams, but a common enemy. Joining an underground alliance, they discover a group of scientists in possession of a weapon powerful enough to change society forever. Their radical solution is not without great risk. Venus Virus.
This is the first Carmilla Voiez book I have tried and it is quite good, The storyline is quite believable in a world in the future. Quite whether the results of a major flood would be a total reversal of everything the equal rights folks have worked for is doubtful but it is what it is. The revenge planned by the downtrodden women is brutal. Well and clearly narrated by Ms Ormarod although more work on different voices for the characters would in my opinion have made it more enjoyable, I did have difficulty following who was actually speaking at times. Overall a pretty good read. ****

Actually believable and addictive
I have been listening to this over the last few days and have got really engrossed. The character development and the intertwining were very well written. I could see how it all fitted together - a little Handmaids tale vibe as well.
My only really disappoint is that I would love to now what happens after the first 100 days or even a prequel.
Heads up to the narrator as well - love how she gives each character a different voice.

oh I'm sorry I don't wish to this
1st thank you for this free book, I just couldn't listen to it any longer.
2nd Nicola would have to change the different characters in the voices. I really am sorry I couldn't listen to the end of this book.

mixed feelings
as always N. Ormarod has delivered an outstanding narratol performance, it was strange listening to a book written about a world 46 years in the future that describes our current world as the past, the global warming the consumerism etc.. the similarity to how the women were treated in the future to how we have been treated and oppressed in the past, although it is a long book to listen to I'm glad I chose it, it has made me question what we as a society and world are doing to our precious planet
