Khoma Brut had no idea the trouble he would be in when he asked for shelter at a lonely hut, belonging to an old woman. Enjoy this quirky and spooky tale by Nikolai Gogol.

First of this series that's ACTUALLY horror

As the title says, this is the first book in the series that I've read that is actually horror. most are just vaguely in the theme of the supernatural at best, but that doesn't mean they were bad as books, just that the series title "tales of the macabre" isn't really suitable.

In any case, and as all books in this series, the narration is the same, overdramatic style, but again it works. I doesn't for all books in the series if you ask me, but I think it works for most.

It is a story about a witch, spoken in very peasant tone, although the main character is a student of philosophy.

I quite enjoyed the story to be honest, and I especially liked the view of life and superstition at the time. Very typical Gogol novel if you know him, and a good one too.
