About this listen
Sometimes love needs a few wagers to stick the second time around.
Pleasure is his only pursuit....
Colin Rowley, Viscount Hartsford, has been given an offer too good to ignore: If he comes home to Lancaster Hall and his family by Christmas morning, he’ll win a coveted racehorse as well as an estate. Trouble is, recollections attached to his ducal father’s castle leave him haunted, especially those regarding the first girl he’s ever loved, the one who rejected him.
Faced with reduced circumstances...
Widow Lucy Ashbrook is leaving London for the last time. Now that her husband’s savings have dried up, she can no longer afford her lifestyle, so after she attends the Christmas house party at Lancaster Hall - the site of so many delicious memories - she’ll return to her parents on the neighboring property. Too bad the man who first won her heart, and who accompanies her on the journey to Derbyshire, hasn’t changed his selfish ways.
The magic of the holiday season...
When a series of mysterious events continually throw Colin and Lucy together, they can’t help but revisit the past, and rediscover the joy made during those long-ago winters. Happiness will elude them both unless they find the Yuletide wonder and give themselves over to a love that has waited...with the help of a few secret Christmas wagers working behind the scenes.

Lucy and Colin's Story!
A really interesting and enjoyable story but the way in which it was narrated (to my ear) was not the greatest.
I loved the characters - all of them. They made sense and gelled beautifully. The other thing I really liked was the way the story came together in the end with a novel surprise.
This is an endearing second chance during the Christmas Season with all the emotions one could want at that time of the year.
A lovely story which I am happy to recommend but I hesitate to recommend the audio.
I listened to the audiobook version and this is my voluntary and unbiased review of it.

Wagering on Christmas
Colin Rowley, Viscount Hartsford, has avoided his family and the holiday season far to long so his family plots to get him home. His one love from so long ago is the biggest part of this space between him and his family. So between family plotting and fate Widow Lucy Ashbrook ends up right in his path on the same trip he is on. Sweet, romantic, and heartwarming. Great job on the narration. Thanks Audiobook Obsession for the recommendation.

Wagering on Christmas
What a lovely book. I enjoyed every word of it. So gentle and loving. Their children and his Mother knew that they needed each other, before they did. The story of their carriage breaking down was excellent as it gave them time to talk and sort things out. It is such a sweet Christmas story and to know how they got back together after all those
Years. How they met due to a road problem was marvellous. They hadn’t seen one another for such a long time and for them to meet like this was extraordinary. His daughter who travelled with them spent most of the time sleeping or pretending to, in order for her to listen to their conversation. After much blame and a lot of discussion, then apologies and a sneaky kiss all was resolved and passion reigned again. The narrator was excellent and she told the story perfectly. Miss Sookoo you have written a very enjoyable book. Thank you. xxx

Not a bad regency romance.
I have been reading Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer for the last few years and have gotten used to the tame story lines. I used to read this type of steamy romance novel before that so while it was a bit of a shock to my system, the actual story wasn’t bad at all. The heart of the unrequited love story (my favourite) was very sweet and well thought out. I did have a brief period of thinking the heroine was a self righteous cow bag but I think times have just changed. The book was well read by the narrator and I finished it in a day.

a second chance romance
I loved this second chance romance. Colin and Lucy were once lovers, but as fate would have it, it was not their time. Now as they return to the place it all began, they have a second chance. Each of them having kids and past marriages brings some baggage, but these two belong together. Fate seems to want them together as a series of events keeps throwing them together. This was a heart warming story. I found myself wanting them together from the beginning. Colin seems to have matured, and that adds depth to this second chance. SO many tugs at my heartstrings kept me captivated by this story.
Megan Green did a great job narrating this story. She has an easy to listen to voice. Ms. Green was able to keep the characters distinct and easy to follow. I felt as if I was a part of this story as Megan Green brought it to life.

Sweet festive second chance romance
This was a sweet second chance romance with Colin and Lucy both widowed finding themselves thrown together on a long journey to spend time with their families at Christmas. I found this a slow starter and I really didn’t like Colin at first but about halfway through I started to see why he was the way he was (not that that excused his behaviour!) I loved Lucy she was everything a heroine should be. The story ended beautifully but I would’ve love an epilogue. Megan’s narration was perfect for this story and she managed to make me feel like I was watching the story unfold in real life.

Sweet heartwarming holiday novel
I haven’t read a historical romance in a long time, and I’ve rarely listened to one. I’m glad I started again with this one. I enjoyed listening so much. The story was heartwarming, the characters stood out, and the narration was done really well. Awesome.
