Summary

Thirteen years ago, DI Helen Birch's little brother Charlie disappeared.

Two days ago, Birch was part of a raid on one of Scotland's most feared criminal organisations.

Yesterday, Charlie came back....

Now Birch has a choice: save her career, or save Charlie?

As she interrogates her brother, we see his story, in a brilliantly tense and clever story about what people will do to survive and the lines they'll cross to protect those they love.

EXCELLENT STORY EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE

I'll admit that I wavered on my decision to buy this book, because of the only, but bad review... I am so happy I chose to make up my own mind ....it's excellent.

Ok so you will hear the word 'marm'...really, it does not detract from the excellent narration of Sarah Barron and Angus King...who knows...it may have been deliberate and intended by the Author.

So in summary...just crack on and listen to this book....you won't be disappointed!

Superb! Don’t miss it!

Loved the story - hooked from the start. Both narrators are excellent and the novel is pacy, exciting and detailed.

'C" WORDS!!!

I enjoyed the previous book in this series but this one is a bit of a letdown in that there is way too much use of the "C" word which I find particularly hard to take.

Couldn’t listen to it

I really enjoyed All The Hidden Truths and pre-ordered What You Pay For but I’ve had to return it. The female narrator just isn’t for me. The boss being referred to as “Marm” grated and this the first time I’ve experienced a Scottish actor hamming up a Scottish accent so much it’s offensive. I might try the Kindle version but I doubt it as I what I listened to was slow moving and just didn’t grab my attention.
