Summary

In this epic and haunting love story set on the Oregon Trail, a family and their unlikely protector find their way through peril, uncertainty, and loss.

The Overland Trail, 1853: Naomi May never expected to be widowed at 20. Eager to leave her grief behind, she sets off with her family for a life out West. On the trail, she forms an instant connection with John Lowry, a half-Pawnee man straddling two worlds and a stranger in both.

But life in a wagon train is fraught with hardship, fear, and death. Even as John and Naomi are drawn to each other, the trials of the journey and their disparate pasts work to keep them apart. John’s heritage gains them safe passage through hostile territory only to come between them as they seek to build a life together.

When a horrific tragedy strikes, decimating Naomi’s family and separating her from John, the promises they made are all they have left. Ripped apart, they can’t turn back, they can’t go on, and they can’t let go. Both will have to make terrible sacrifices to find each other, save each other, and eventually...make peace with who they are.

Where the Lost Wander

Another brilliant novel from Amy Harmon! I found it hard to put down, it was so gripping. The only negative for me was Lauren Ezzo's attempt at a male voice. Shaun's narration was perfect for the part.

The writing, the descriptions, the characters are all so rich, and the storyline lovely. Everything a good book should be.

Where The Lost Wonder

Loved this story. Narration was very good, enjoyed both male and female voices. Enjoyed Naomi and John’s tale and all the characters in this story, especially little Web.

Amazing book and great narration

Loved the story! Exactly what I was looking for (romance on the western trail) but with a depth that makes it stand out from other similar books. I loved the female character & her relationship with her mom and her family. The backstory of the male character was very well woven. It was also a very good audiobook with great narrators.

Finishing this story is like a bereavement

I was hooked from start to finish. Strong lead characters with such great descriptions of the plains I felt I was on the journey with them! What’s more a love story too. Does literature get better than this!

Hated the narrator

I really disliked the female narrator. The intonation is all wrong, often ending sentences on rising tones. Her performance is also overly emotional and her imitation of male voices sounds outright ridiculous. It's an audiobook, not a radio drama!

The story is good, if a bit on the nose.
