Summary

When Shetland detective Jimmy Perez finds a body in a hut used by fishermen, it seems to be a straightforward case of suicide. He recognises the victim - a stranger with amnesia who had disrupted a local party the night before his death. Yet this is no desperate act of anguish but the work of a cold and calculating killer.

As Perez investigates, he finds himself mired in the hidden secrets of the small Biddista community. Then another body is found. Perez knows he must break the cycle before another death occurs. But this is a crazy time of year, when night blurs into day and nothing is quite as it seems....

Absorbing

A compelling and intricate story. The reading gave it even greater authenticity.
Would definitely recommend.

Enjoyable

I love the narrator, I love Jimmy Perez, I love the Shetlands so I enjoyed it. I think the ending was a tad implausible. Most of the characters are well formed but randomly, the only one I don’t like is Fran. And I don’t understand why the character who does like her, does actually like her!

Easy listening!

Very well read by Kenny Blyth , likable characters and a good storyline. I just found the ending a little contrived, but I still enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next Perez chronicle.

Beautifully read

Having enjoyed the tv series decided to read the books. Didn’t find this quite as gripping as the first one as it was a slower pace but the narrator was excellent and I shall definitely work my way through the series.

Gently storyline, but plenty of twists and turns

Ann intriguing storyline, well written, well narrated. Pity that the TV series changes so much unecessaeily; they really didn't need to

Recording hiccups in chapter 39

Enjoying the book. Great narration.
Found it annoying at the start of chapter 39 where the dialogue hiccups and parts or whole words are lost, a bit like a dodgy microphone joke.

Up to standard

Lovers of Shetland and Peter May's Lewis trilogy will enjoy this, the landscape and community are the real stars. The plot and characters are a tad 2 dimensional.

As always excellent

A well thought out story that from the beginning to end keeps your attention. Until the very last i had no idea of the murderer was however, on reflection, the clues were there.
As with all of the books I have listen too previously Kenny Blyth has the tones and affliction of the characters to perfection.
Summary Brilliant!!!
