About this listen

Not appreciated one....
My first audible here and not appreciated one. This audible will get better toward the end, but it is too late. The result is a book without a taut story line and almost no integrated themes. Maybe this is OK for a conference of professional historians or as the syllabus for a semester-long college course. But as historical biography for us amateurs, it falls short of the good ones.

Definitely Need this to learn about William Wallac
I actually obtained this as a gift from the publisher. A few pages into the book, and I knew I needed my own copy to keep. This book is well-researched and contains information about early Scotland I need for my own research. Would highly recommend it.

A book full of surprises.
Once you read the reasons for the rebellion you feel the importance of his que and his unselfish devotion to the people of his country. A Great listening which you will not be able to put down.

An history, needed to know.
I love history books, and being an British I must know how the Scottish get rid of Great Briton many years ago. The author did a fantastic job to describe the era.

Not a bad effort.
When I read a book about so exciting a figure as William Wallace, I do not want to know where Blind Harry went wrong and a competing source was a tad better. I want to know why the peerage of Scotland was so fickle, why Edward I had such a thing about crushing the Scots and Wallace in particular, and why -- after Falkirk -- Edward was so ineffectual in conquering Scotland.

Missed Opportunities as I know about him.
The story of William Wallace is based on a very few sources of widely varying credibility. When one is faced with such a situation, there are two courses of action possible. Ronald Williams facing an even greater dearth in his excellent LORD OF THE ISLES compensated by filling in the background so that the resulting read was a much richer experience. Unfortunately, the author seemed to spend over half the time dealing with inconsistencies of his sources. This makes for great scholarly debates -- but I think it should be relegated to the footnotes.
