Summary

Fueled by a passion for running dogs, Gary Paulsen entered the Iditarod - the 1,180-mile sled-dog race through the Alaskan wilderness - in dangerous ignorance and with a fierce determination. For 17 days, he and his team of dogs endured blinding wind, snowstorms, frostbite, dogfights, moose attacks, sleeplessness, hallucinations - and the relentless push to go on.

Winterdance is the enthralling account of a "stunning wilderness journey of discovery and transformation" (Chicago Tribune), lived and told by "the best author of man-against-nature adventures writing today" (Publishers Weekly).

Often funny, Sad, Entertaining

Brilliant book. For a husky owner who has huskys and dryland Bush's it was an enthralling read. The narrator does an excellent job of reading the story, to the point you do believe it's him retelling his memorys.

Instant Favourite

I absolutely loved this book, it is an instant favourite, and brings back fond memories of mushing in Sweden. I cannot recommend this book enough.

It was like being there!

I can't believe that the narrator isn't the author, so utterly realistic is his delivery. I'm just broken-hearted to have finished this book. It's seen me through a horrible infectious illness and taken me far away to adventure, risk and a sense that life can still be worth living. I only wish it didn't have to end. Best book ever XXXXX
