About this listen

In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabers."

Alas, aside from a demanding career and her role as a single mother (not to mention the hyperspace hairdo), Carrie also spends her free time battling addiction, weathering the wild ride of manic depression and lounging around various mental institutions. It's an incredible tale - from having Elizabeth Taylor as a stepmother, to marrying (and divorcing) Paul Simon, from having the father of her daughter leave her for a man, to ultimately waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed.

Witty and fun and interesting

I'd heard Carrie Fisher was a good and funny writer, and was she ever! Three cheers for her.

What a woman, buy this book.

Absolutely hysterical, what an incredibly witty, insightful woman. Her deadpan delivery was spectacular . It is ludicrous that such a talented woman had such low self esteem. I was crying with laughter when she was talking about Bob Dylan and perfume.

Very good listen

This book is short, honest and funny. It is mainly about the suffering of mental illness.

Most entertaining!

Carrie Fisher reading her own book was brilliantly entertaining and definitely added an extra dimension to the experience. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Please listen to this book, it's incredible!

I have never really known much about Carrie Fisher but I feel like I have just had a rather barmy 3 hour conversation with her. She narrates her autobiography with such emphatic humour and light heartedness. Her life was sad and surreal in equal measures. She expresses no self pity and seems to see the funny side to everything.
I have just spent 3 hours laughing uncontrollably and feel as if I had been sat with the wonderful lady herself (sadly impossible now) whilst dropping acid and drinking a few too many.
What a remarkable experience listening to this book has been. If you need a brief escape to a Galaxy far far away ... have a listen, you will be missing out if you don't.
