About this listen

“Like being deemed a witch hundreds of years ago, being presumed a slut today is cause for ostracism, abuse, and death”.... Archetypes of “witch” and “slut” have been used to police female sexuality and punish women; now, feminists are reclaiming them as positive affirmations. This book unearths the sex positive feminist legacy of the witch in art, music, politics, and popular culture, connecting the fictional witch we love to emulate and fear with real women, past and present.

Kristen J. Sollee is instructor at the New School and founding editrix of Slutist, an award-winning sex positive feminist website.

Beautiful microcosm

A great introduction to the vast world of how male projected fear has been represented and oppression of women from cultural, historical, artistic and political perspectives, outstandingly researched and balanced. I would have prefered it read slower though. There is a huge amount of information delivered like a bullet train.

Enlightening and Encouraging

I found this book to be hugely enlightening. Considering myself and educated woman, there are elements here that I had some knowledge on but others that I didn't know about and I'm pleased I can now go and explore some more. It has enspired me to learn more and made me feel that I am not alone in my experiences. The writing and research is excellent and the way the book is read and makes it easy and light as well as being informative. A must read for all witches sluts and feminists as well as thoes with an inclination to educate themselves.

Great premise, didn’t go deep enough

The premise of this book was fantastic, the author identified an excellent topic to delve into and explore. I absolutely loved the choice of narrator for this, she should play a villain in movies.
But unfortunately, I have to agree that other reviews I’ve seen online are right in that, although these are all great topics to cover, and I feel like the author knows so much more about these topics that discussed, she seems to touch upon them without going in depth into them or exploring them with a new perspective that’s her own. She kind of jumps from topic to topic with some information.
I would have loved a deeper dive into each of the chapters.
