About this listen

The GemMarked by the Gods, Kya is forced to partake in a Trial for a chance to be deemed Worthy. If she succeeds, she’ll be gifted great powers. If she fails, she could lose her life or worse. But that’s only the start of her worries. Now, the same plague that took her home is spreading and threatening the fate of the realm. Can Kya survive the Trial of the Gods and gain the needed power to rid the world of the growing threat before it’s too late? Or will she be drawn to what awaits her in the shadows?

The ShadowRyker has waited a long time for her—his mate. Now he’s found her. He plans to claim what is rightfully his, but dark forces threaten to destroy his Nation should he embrace the bond he so desperately desires. Unable to escape the drive to be near her, he waits for his precious gem, lingering in her shadow.

Worthy of Fate is the first book in a new adult, dark fantasy romance series with an intriguing magic system, dark forces, Spirits, and forbidden fated mates.

An enjoyable read....

We follow Kya, who is forced to undergo a trial for the chance to be deemed worthy by one of the God's. The trials take up VERY little of the book, so if that's your reason for reading it then it's worth noting.
Ryker has been waiting a really long time to find his mate and when he finds her he will do anything to have Kya! Forces are working against them however so they must resist the bond.
The scene the morning after seeing the moss,🔥! This is a agonising, hot, different kind of slow burn 😂 Oh and did I forget to mention Ryker has wings AND this book takes Touch Her and Die to a WHOLE new level! We also have a gorgeous Pegasus and a dragon! I probably don't need to say more for many, but I will 😂!
The magic system is interesting, the world is quite unique and Kya is a strong warrior FMC but more relatable than many I've read.
I found the pacing, mainly the middle a little slow and wished there was more character development! I was also hoping for more depth from Ryker, wanting to know more about him. To have more of a connection with the characters as a whole.
This book does drag you in and hold you there, with a side of frustration and glorious tension with payoff when it comes to the romance (and spice)!
What was meant to be a shock and emotional moment near the end strangely did not hit me. I had kind of thought it may happen but I was surprised when I did not feel emotional about it. Honestly that feeling (or lack of) is why this is not a 5 star read for me. Something I cannot name was missing when it came to my emotional connection to the characters. The end is a cliffhanger and for me was urgh. Again no shock as i saw it coming and I have an idea of what will happen next.
I had to sit with this one for my rating as on one hand I loved the world, the FMC and the romance but on the other I felt disconnected emotionally.
I still thoroughly enjoyed the book, its a solid read and I would absolutely recommend it without hesitation. I look forward to the next book and hopefully the cliffhanger will resolve quickly and not linger into book two too much.
