About this listen
Our brains are more powerful than we ever realised. Too often, we assume that people's natures are fixed, immutable. For sufferers of depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction, or the after-effects of stroke, this can be a difficult thought. For those with extreme conditions, such as locked-in syndrome or psychopathy, it can feel as if there is no hope at all.
However, in Your Brain Knows More Than You Think, leading neurobiologist Niels Birbaumer turns these assumptions on their head, arguing that neuroplasticity - the virtually limitless capacity of the brain to remould itself - is enough to overcome almost any condition, however life-limiting it seems.
Like the fathers and mothers of psychiatry, Birbaumer explores the sometimes-wild frontiers of a new way of thinking about our brains and behaviour. Through actual cases from his research and practice, he shows how we can change through brain training alone - and without risky drugs - if we simply open our minds.

Very good book on brain plasticity
I have to say, I really really enjoyed this book and felt that it was also very well narrated. I’m actually reading / listening to it again because I find the content both fascinating and exciting for our times. I highly recommend this book / audio!

Fascinating
Really enjoyed this book with its research of brain plasticity. It focuses exclusively on all sorts of abnormalities, disease or addiction so I would have liked it to include some practical advice for harnessing some of the brain’s amazing abilities outside the realm of pathology treatment by professionals. Otherwise a witty engaging and well read audiobook is a really satisfying listen. A further book on practical application from the author would be most welcome.

Thought provoking
Some controversial themes and approaches, but interesting none the less. Left me wanting to find out more about neurological feedback therapy and it's possible applications.

Own theory - no evidence.
Seems more pseudoscience than anything - it’s more the writers take on neuro plasticity than a sound scientific study. Wanted a factual, evidenced book
