About this listen

Having started on Radio 2 in January 2003, Jeremy Vine realised he was soon to take his 25,000th listener call to his lunchtime show. As the magic number approached, he decided to take stock of the wisdom his listeners have imparted over the airwaves by way of anecdotes on everything including love, life and poisonous plants.

The moment of self-reflection couldn't have come at a better time, with his doctor warning him about 'sniper's alley' - when people get taken out by all kinds of illnesses between 47 and 52.

When Jeremy's brother - the comedian Tim Vine - bought him a watch for his 50th birthday, Jeremy concluded that if the watch was bought by comedy, then perhaps every second of his life was now a joke. Which was when he decided to go on Strictly Come Dancing.

This is his hilarious memoir of lessons learnt from life, listeners and Len Goodman.

Outstanding!

A great listen. Takes the best of the Jeremy Vine show & gives background, analysis & depth to some of the stories & characters who have called in.

A thoroughly entertaining read

This book is packed with short stories which on some occasions shows the lengths some people will go to to get a mention on radio and at other times tells some truly heart warming stories and heart renching tales carefully compiled to make a truly entertaining read.

Why can't Jeremy read his own book?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was an enjoyable listen on my drive to work. Light and entertaining.

What was one of the most memorable moments of What I Learnt?

A collection of anecdotes from the life and career of Jeremy Vine. Not quite an autobiography though. Some funny stores and some sad.

What about Jeremy Vine and Peter Kenny ’s performance did you like?

I don't understand why Jeremy Vine isn't reading the whole book - disappointing.

Pompous.

Middle class pompous drivel by a mere presenter who has ideas of grandeur way above his actual status. He has, apparently, been on or presented the 'greatest shows the BBC has ever produced, and worked alongside five of the greatest radio presenters in the world there has ever been! He actually believes Eggheads is the best quiz show ever produced!! The only saving grace is he didn't actually read this himself. He comes in three times during the reading but for some reason decided to use a sanctimonious, edge of crying, drawn out drawl. Thought it would be s great insight into his listeners psyche but instead was treated to strictly come dancing (over an hour and a half), anti Brexit Beeb sentiment and his own egotistical existence. His mother cried at his 50th birthday party and to be honest if I was closely related to him, I would have cried too.

Who doesn’t read their own audio book!

Annoyed that the sample was Jeremy Vine , then purchased to find our he only reads the introduction! I love Jeremy Vine’s show and wanted to hear him, instead a man who has the same annoying voice as Ed Milliband. It bored me as I wasn’t engaged, gave up after half way through. It would have been completely different if Jeremy was reading it himself.
