Growth, Pivoting, Effort

If I had to boil this episode down to a single takeaway, I’d say it’s about effort. Sometimes our outcomes don’t mirror our efforts, and it’s on those days we have to commit to the work anyway.

I had moments this past week when I wanted to quit, moments when I sat staring at a computer screen because I had no sense of how to meaningfully move forward, and those still moments didn’t help me achieve my dreams.

It’s fine to be still and to pivot, but it’s harmful to give in to discouragement. Move forward. Always be fighting to take new territory.

She was raised on a mountain in the Angeles National Forest where she learned to identify flora and fauna, navigate by the stars, forage for edible plants, and care for the earth. Her memoir, Forager: Field Notes on Surviving a Family Cult, showcases her life growing up on an isolated mountain in California as part of an apocalyptic cult, and how she found her way out of poverty and illness by drawing on the gifts of the wilderness.
