• Ep. 278: You Missed Your Chance to...
    Jul 7 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 278, “You Missed Your Chance to…,“ Kim discusses the opportunities we miss when we do not fully trust the Lord. King Asa reigned over Judah for thirty-six years, trusting in the Lord and leading Judah to do the same. Then, his trust focus changed, looking to a heathen king for intervention. As a result of not trusting the Lord, he missed a chance to defeat Aram and multiple other opportunities. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 16:1-14 (also in 1 Kings 15) with verses 7-10 as the focal verses: “At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa and told him, “Because you have put your trust in the king of Aram instead of in the Lord your God, you missed your chance to destroy the army of the king of Aram. Don’t you remember what happened to the Ethiopians and Libyans and their vast army, with all of their chariots and charioteers? At that time you relied on the Lord, and he handed them over to you. The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.” Asa became so angry with Hanani for saying this that he threw him into prison and put him in stocks. At that time Asa also began to oppress some of his people.” WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: In which areas of life have you missed your chance because you did not fully trust in the Lord? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. • Ep. 277: Is "Trouble" Really a Tool in the Lord's Toolbox?
    Jun 30 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 277, “Is ‘Trouble’ Really a Tool in the Lord’s Toolbox?“ Kim discusses the ways in which the Lord uses trouble in the lives of His followers, as well as those who are yet to turn to Him. Our loving God, who has all wisdom, all power, and is perfect love, will use any means necessary to have and grow relationships with those He created. Trouble is one of the tools He has in His divine toolbox, and as we see in our lesson today, He will use it with His purposes in mind. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 15:1-7 with verse 6 as the focal verse: 6 Nation fought against nation, and city against city, for God was troubling them with every kind of problem. WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: God’s Word says He disciplines those He loves. In what forms of trouble has God used to draw you to Him? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. 6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” 7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? Jun 16 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 275, “What Do You Build in Times of Peace?“ Kim discusses the importance of using seasons of peace to prepare ourselves for the next challenging season. As King Asa worked to fortify the walls, towers, and gates, we can work on building in spiritual disciplines into our daily lives. The growth you can experience will prepare you to better face upcoming spiritual challenges. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 14:1-7 with verses 6-7 as the focal verse: 6 During those peaceful years, he was able to build up the fortified towns throughout Judah. No one tried to make war against him at this time, for the Lord was giving him rest from his enemies. 7 Asa told the people of Judah, “Let us build towns and fortify them with walls, towers, gates, and bars. The land is still ours because we sought the Lord our God, and he has given us peace on every side.” So they went ahead with these projects and brought them to completion. Our focal passage for this episode is 2 Chronicles 14:8-15 with verse 11 as the focal verse: “Then Asa cried out to the Lord his God, “O Lord, no one but you can help the powerless against the mighty! Jun 2 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 273, “Trust the Lord to Cover Your Six,“ Kim discusses the idea of having someone “cover your six” and the importance of trusting the Lord to be the ultimate One you trust. It is wonderful to have human connections who vow to be there for you; we all need some of those. Yet, there is only One who can watch your six and cover your six completely, 24/7/365. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 15:1-8 and 2 Chronicles 13:1-22 with verses 2 Chronicles 13:13-15 as the focal verses: 13 Meanwhile, Jeroboam had secretly sent part of his army around behind the men of Judah to ambush them. 14 When Judah realized that they were being attacked from the front and the rear, they cried out to the Lord for help. Then the priests blew the trumpets, 15 and the men of Judah began to shout. At the sound of their battle cry, God defeated Jeroboam and all Israel and routed them before Abijah and the army of Judah. Jun 9 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 274, “When Cleaning House Gets Personal,“ Kim discusses the challenges that may come when we surrender all to the Lord and make adjustments to honor Him. In today’s lesson, we see that King Asa was so serious about ridding the Southern Kingdom of idols that he deposed his own grandmother because of her idolatry. Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 15:9-15 with verse 13 as the focal verse: 13 He even deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made an obscene Asherah pole. He cut down her obscene pole and burned it in the Kidron Valley. WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: If you were to commit 100% of yourself to the Lord and begin to act accordingly, would your friends and family be supportive or combative? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 25 A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them, 26 “If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. May 26 2024
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 272, “Substitute Anything for God and Settle for a Substituted Life,“ Kim discusses the importance of loving the Lord wholeheartedly and not settling for a “bronze” kind of life. King Rehoboam of Judah started looking around and following the example of the neighboring nations and led himself and the people of God into idolatry. Although he eventually humbled himself at the Lord’s correction, too much destruction had taken place and consequences remained. Might each of us take a good look at our own lives this day and choose whom we will serve? Our focal passage for this episode is 1 Kings 14:21-31 and 2 Chronicles 12:1-16 with verses 2 Chronicles 12:1, 9-10 as the focal verses: 1 But when Rehoboam was firmly established and strong, he abandoned the Law of the Lord, and all Israel followed him in this sin. 9 So King Shishak of Egypt came up and attacked Jerusalem. He ransacked the treasuries of the Lord’s Temple and the royal palace; he stole everything, including all the gold shields Solomon had made. 10 King Rehoboam later replaced them with bronze shields as substitutes, and he entrusted them to the care of the commanders of the guard who protected the entrance to the royal palace. WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: When you read “You must not have any other god but Me,” does the Spirit convict you of substituting someone or something for God? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 3 “You must not have any other god but me. (Exodus 20:3)1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2)15 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold.
