Patients often wonder what triggers initial onset and subsequent episodes of AF, and evidence increasingly supports the importance of lifestyle and risk factor modification for primary and secondary prevention of atrial fibrillation. We will discuss the current evidence related to common patient-reported triggers, as well as the latest evidence-based guidelines related to risk factor modification for prevention of AF onset, slowing of AF progression, and improved AF-related outcomes.

We aim to provide guidance by exploring interventional approaches to the management of atrial fibrillation and mitigation of thromboembolic risk. We will provide a review of interventional approaches including AF ablation for the management of atrial fibrillation and briefly discuss left atrial occlusion devices. Additionally, surgical techniques will be described in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Lastly, incidence, risk factors and management of post-operative AF will be discussed.

We aim to provide guidance by highlighting the current evidence in anticoagulation management of special populations including those with CKD, the elderly and those with concomitant acute coronary syndromes. We will provide a case-based approach to these challenging situations with multidisciplinary perspectives from pharmacy and cardiology.
