  • Cobb Schools Super Tells Safety Plan Critics to 'Take a Break'
    Nov 15 2024

From the Ingles Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Friday, November 15th and I'm Keith Ippolito.

Cobb Schools Super Tells Safety Plan Critics to 'Take a Break'

Cobb County School Superintendent Chris Ragsdale urged critics of the district's safety plan to "take a break" from political rhetoric following the recent election, which maintained a Republican majority on the school board. Ragsdale highlighted the board's continued support for the district's vision and safety measures, including a controversial partnership with a private security firm, Servius Group, to monitor students using military intelligence tactics. This initiative, prompted by recent school shootings, aims to address digital threats and safety concerns. Critics, including state Rep. David Wilkerson, have raised concerns about potential profiling and lack of transparency. Ragsdale defended the plan, emphasizing its necessity for evolving safety strategies and denying allegations of profiling. Despite some board members' calls for more transparency, Ragsdale maintained that disclosing detailed safety measures could compromise student safety. The district continues to invest in various safety technologies and personnel to ensure a secure educational environment.
