On December 15, 2015, Gypsy’s boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, murdered Blanchard’s mother Dee Dee at their Springfield, Missouri home. Gypsy had allowed Godejohn access to the home when she and Dee Dee were at a doctor’s appointment. She provided Godejohn with a knife, gloves, and duct tape to facilitate the crime. Blanchard pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. She was released on parole on December 28, 2023, after serving 8 years. Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Gypsy Rose Blanchard allegedly suffered from years of abuse at the hands of her mother Dee Dee, who maintained that Gypsy Rose suffered from muscular dystrophy, cancer, and numerous other ailments. Dee Dee frequently shaved Gypsy’s head, telling her that since she was suffering from cancer, her hair would fall out anyway. There are enough layers of the proverbial onion here for several books!
