Like those in Corinth, many churches today have elevated spiritual gifts, especially speaking in tongues, as the mark of salvation causing contention and disunity in the body. Paul corrects this by clarifying that there are diversities of gifts, distributed by the Holy Spirit for the edifying of the church. Some, not all, have particular gifts, including speaking in tongues. All His children have some gift for the building up of the body. God's love toward us comes before we can love Him. When we do love Him, it is impossible to not simultaneously love our brethren.
