Der Zirkel der Sieben hat, wie von Oscar Wilde vermutet, einen engen Vertrauten des Könighauses in seine Gewalt gebracht. Mithilfe einer von Aleister Crowley entwickelten Substanz wollen sie Lord Duncans Gehirn unter ihre Kontrolle stellen und auf diese Weise das englische Königshaus unterwandern. Als Oscar Wilde hinter den gefährlichen Plan des Zirkels kommt, sitzt er selbst in der Falle. Und während der Sonderermittler der Krone nach einem Weg sucht, sich aus dem finsteren Verlies zu befreien, nähern sich die Mitglieder des Zirkels zusammen mit Lord Duncan dem königlichen Palast.

Am Schauplatz eines Verkehrsunfalls wird die Leiche eines Mannes gefunden, der schon Stunden zuvor ums Leben kam, aber dennoch typische Unfallverletzungen aufweist.
