Just as Tav and his team of EMP survivors think they have their side of the mountain secure, a rogue National Guard unit rolls in through the farmlands and begin harassing the team’s new allies. Now the clock is ticking, and Tav and Tara have to stalk the most deadly prey of all in order to save Betty’s granddaughter.

Eryk has returned to Kari, Lin, and Fay after falling down a ravine in the Demon Beast Mountain Range and meeting the mysterious woman, Dyr. After returning home, everyone falls back into their routines. Eryk spends his time training Fay and Kari, teaching Lin humanity’s written language, giving new alchemy recipes to the Alchemist Association, and trying to help the Nevarian Spiritualists build up their defenses in preparation for the Demon Beast Invasion that will happen several years from now.

Tav and his allies have a new and unwelcome neighbor: A rogue unit of murderous National Guard who intend to take control of the area, its resources, and its people for themselves. Assaulting even a small military base is no mean feat, so Tav will have to train his girls to be weapons of war in addition to just survivors. The Guards are unable to live in peace, so Tav must prepare for war.

He and his family thought their immediate problems were over after the defeat of the villainous hero Blaze Maddox, but his death was just the beginning. Danger is coming from all sides, and it turns out that Sam isn’t the only one with a target on his head. As each disaster nearly destroys his world, Sam is presented with life-altering choices that not only affect him, but everyone in his life as well. However, one thing is quickly becoming clear - he isn’t in it alone, and there is truly strength in numbers. But will everyone’s help be enough?

With the rest of the world in shambles, Tav, his women, and their growing community are surviving. Against all odds and much opposition, they have managed to create some order amidst the chaos. But winter is coming, and the threat of untold hordes of hungry mouths sweeping through and destroying their community is bearing down on them. They must stockpile and fortify, because when the snow falls and people get desperate, only the strong and prepared will survive.

Life as a baron is great.... Well, mostly great... Mason could probably do with fewer murderous monsters, like acid-spitting spiders and giant fire titans, but he makes due. His village is well defended, his metallic creations get more epic by the day, and his women are relatively safe and healthy, so Mason spends some well-deserved time getting to know Baroness Batonova a little better. But war is coming to Illaria, whether they want it to or not.

As always, Mason has his hands full protecting several kingdoms, but at least he’s finally getting some reward for all his hard work. Now that he’s a baron, Mason has to figure out what to do with all his new land, his new riches, and his new mansion. But life is not all rich baron sex and giant statues made of precious gemstones. The Master’s fortress looms in the eastern foothills, and his possessed mages aren’t the only things roaming Illaria’s countryside now.

Back home in Bartertown once more, Mihalis is working on advancing his plans to turn Bartertown into the kind of place where the rich and powerful come to make those special deals they prefer to do out of sight of both the public and certain governments. He's also spending a fair deal of his time over at HoJo's, where Talin and Caitin's sisters are still very interested in him. Now if only he would stop being ambushed by assassins afterward—it's definitely becoming quite annoying.

As autumn progresses, Tav and his band of beautiful women prepare to survive the harsh winter in the Vermont mountains. But nature isn’t the only thing they have to worry about. A group of mountain people have been watching the school, and they plan on taking one of Tav’s people for ransom.

Jack and his women are trying to build a life on the islands, but there is something or someone out there trying to end them all. They disembark on their most dangerous mission yet as they try to rescue the last of the women from their shipwreck. The islands won’t give up anything easily, though. Join Jack and crew on another adventure through the archipelago.
