Two delightful Christmas tales by Anthony Trollope, who, along with Dickens, was one of the literary giants of Victorian England.

Anthony Trollope's autobiography will delight you whether or not you've read (or listened to) any of his many works. His honest if self-deprecating tone is at times hilarious and at times piteously moving. His detailed descriptions of his writing process and his philosophy of writing as work rather than art are fascinating. Fans of Trollope will enjoy learning the man's perceptions of his novels' shortcomings and triumphs. Anyone will appreciate learning about his years devoted to churning out literature for profit while working full time with the post office. (Summary by JessicaLouise)

Jedoch birgt die Geschichte einige Überraschungen, denn die Geschichte findet nicht das für die Zeit des 19. Jahrhunderts übliche Ende. Eckart Ischebeck erweckt die Charaktere zum Leben und zieht die Hörer in seinen Bann.

'Relics of General Chassé' is a humorous tale of a corpulent and somewhat dandified clergyman who, while visiting the castle at Antwerp, inadvertently becomes separated from his breeches. What follows shakes him to the core. The breeches fall into the hands of a group of female English tourists who decide to take some sample of the cloth as a souvenir.

Plain Alice suffers in silence while the much sought after Major cavorts with the beautiful Gerorgiana Wanless.

Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was one of the most successful and respected English novelists. Malachi's Cove tells the story of Mally, the granddaughter of an old seaweed collector, who takes over the family trade as her "Dada" becomes too old and infirm to carry on. Mally is plagued by interlopers from local farms who come down to collect seaweed in her cove. One in particular, Barty Gunliffe, she resents above all others.

One of Trollope's best short novels tells of a father's vacillation over his daughter's wish to marry his nephew, who is a scamp and a wastrel. Although a sad tale, it is nonetheless brightened with Trollope's inevitable touches of humor.

Fifty-year-old William Whittlestaff becomes guardian to Mary Lawrie, the orphaned and penniless daughter of an old friend, and gradually finds himself falling in love with her. But Mary has already given her heart to the young John Gordon, who has gone to seek his fortune in the Kimberley diamond fields. Gordon's sudden return after a three years' absence, on the very day of Whittlestaff's proposal, precipitates the crisis at the centre of the story.

Ihr Verlobter Sir Francis Geraldine behandelt sie nur mit Gleichgültigkeit, weswegen Cecilia ihre Verlobung mit ihm beendet. Kurz darauf zieht sie ins Ausland, wo sie auf George Western trifft und die beiden kommen sich näher. Das Problem ist jedoch: Cecilia erzählt ihm nichts von ihrer Verlobung.

It is held that his satiric novel, “The Way We Live Now” is his masterpiece.
