Bronte’s The Professor may not provide the same passionate struggles the world has come to know through Jane Eyre, but it does give listeners a glimpse into the everyday struggles of the average man in an era when anything was possible. William Crimsworth takes control of his life at a time when many viewed their lot in life as destiny. Through his career as a professor in Brussels to his quest to find true love, Bronte takes the reader on an unforgettable journey into a romantic bygone era.

The Search After Hapiness was written by Charlotte Brontë when she was 13 years old. It tells the story of a man named Henry O'Donell who leaves his home to seek happiness only to find many years later that it was there all along.

"Il professore" fu il primo romanzo di Charlotte Brontë (pubblicato con lo pseudonimo di Currer Bell); fu però pubblicato dal marito dopo la sua morte, ritenendolo un materiale interessante e autonomo, anche se molto del suo contenuto era stato utilizzato dalla scrittrice nel suo ultimo romanzo, Villette. Infatti in entrambi questi romanzi l'autrice attinge alla sua esperienza di istitutrice in Belgio, in cui, ventiseienne, visse una storia d'amore con un suo professore. "Il professore" fu rifiutato dall'editore.
