Why do we feel anxiety? How can we get past imposter syndrome? How can we be successfully creative? How do we effectively deal with grief? In this interview Robin Ince touches on some of these questions, looks back at how childhood experiences still affect him and enthuses about the latest books he’s read. He also explains why most of us have imagined dropping a baby and why writing the book put him in therapy.

Joining us at Audible Studios is former SAS sergeant Chris Ryan. Ryan enrolled in the British Army at the age of 16, where he then passed selection to join the 22 SAS Regiment under ‘B’ squadron. Ryan spent the next seven years of his life serving around the world on covert and overt operations. Ryan was a key member of the infamous Bravo Two Zero SAS patrol in Iraq during the Gulf War. The patrol was compromised and was forced to head towards Syria on foot. Ryan was the only one of the eight-man team to not be captured or killed.

Imogen Hermes Gower, author of one of the most anticipated novels of 2018, joined us to discuss this, her debut, The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock. A spellbinding story of curiosity and obsession, it is filled to the brim with intelligence, heart and wit. Morgan is a prolific writer, and after a career spanning over 20 years, she shows little signs of slowing. Known for her television works such as The Split and The Hour, as well as the films The Iron Lady, Shame and Suffragette, Morgan's plays are regularly performed in theatres around the country. Now her name will be found on bookshelves too: Morgan's book, This Is Not a Pity Memoir, documents the havoc wreaked on her life over the last few years with her husband in a coma and her own treatment for breast cancer.

Page has always had a passion for writing and began at an early age. She studied fashion journalism and began work at The Guardian. As her career focused on writing, Page found little time to pursue her own writing and so made a career switch to marketing in order to make space for her own books. Page's second novel, The 24-Hour Cafe, has just published, and we chatted to her about the human tales she tells, her determination to write and why she loves having a pen pal.

Joining us at Audible Studios is radio presenter, psychologist and journalist Claudia Hammond. She was born in Bedfordshire and began radio presenting at the age of 14 with a request programme on Hospital Radio Bedford. Hammond attended Sussex University and studied applied psychology, and then Surrey University to study for an Msc in health psychology. After university, Hammond began lecturing in psychology and reporting for BBC Radio 5 Live.

Joining us in the Audible Studios to talk about her latest novel, The House of Shadows, is acclaimed British author, popular TV historian and broadcaster Kate Williams. Author of the novel The Pleasures of Men and four historical biographies which have received critical acclaim, Kate Williams is a lauded author, social historian and broadcaster as well as CNN’s go-to historian and royal expert amongst other channels and TV shows. Kate Williams talks to us about her protagonist Celia, female entrepreneurs of the 1930s and what we can expect from her next.

This critically acclaimed British writer of Pakistani descent is the author of some of the most recognised postcolonial literature in the world, including The Buddha of Suburbia, which won the Whitbread Award for best first novel, and to screenplay for My Beautiful Laundrette. Hanif Kureishi talks to us about his feelings on writing and teaching it, his love of long-form TV series and what it was like to start writing at a time in which art had to be shocking.

Joining us at Audible Studios is Irish physicist, cancer researcher and science writer David Grimes, who has penned his first book, The Irrational Ape, which aims to illustrate the power of critical thinking, and how it can literally save the world. With a critically acclaimed series to her name and over 20 published titles, Cressida discusses the underlying themes to her characters, the magical inspiration behind The Wizards of Once and how it feels to have David Tennant as her narrator.

Ruth Ware visits the Audible studio to talk about her latest thriller, The Lying Game. Both Ware’s debut thriller, In a Dark, Dark Wood, and the follow-up, The Woman in Cabin 10, were Sunday Times top 10 best sellers in the UK and New York Times top 10 best sellers in the US. Here she talks about writing female friendships; her protagonist, Isa; and her fascination with boarding schools.

Louise Allen talks to us about the release of her first audiobook, Thrown Away Child, a memoir in which she revisits a childhood plagued with abuse and neglect from the very people who were supposed to protect her. Louise explains why she has set out to challenge the UK’s foster system.
