Arthur Dent is already having a bad day when the Earth gets demolished to make way for a galactic freeway. Then, in a stroke of luck, his mate Ford Prefect – who happens to be an undercover alien – swings by. The pair stow away on a passing spaceship and a wild journey through time and space begins.

Along the way our heroes come across a slew of galactic weirdos, including President Zaphod Beeblebrox, Marvin the paranoid, clinically depressed robot and, Slartibartfast, one of the planet builders of Magrathea. These names alone should convince you to listen to the audiobook!

Anyone seeking to understand the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything may find it while listening to this audiobook. The answer may disappoint you though, as it does Beeblebrox. He encounters the supercomputer Deep Thought and asks the question, but is left more confused than ever.

Douglas Adams’s hilarious classic story about a hapless dressing-gown-wearing man who ends up tripping around the galaxy was originally a BBC radio play. But it’s hard to imagine anyone out-performing Stephen Fry, who reads the first instalment of the series.

Fry, a British institution and comedy legend, narrated the 2005 film version of Hitchhiker's Guide, which Douglas Adams co-wrote before his death. His performance is timeless as the space travellers careen from one comedy of errors to another. Fry’s schtick and voice talent match perfectly with Adams's always cheeky take on society.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is not just any science fiction series. Arthur C. Clarke declared Douglas Adams's phrase 'Don't Panic!' was perhaps the best advice ever given to humanity. When Elon Musk launched his Tesla Roadster into orbit, 'Don't Panic!' was written on the car’s dashboard.

The series has also been adapted into stage shows, comic books and video games. Before the British-American feature film version made in 2005, the BBC released a TV series adaptation back in 1981.
