It gets better
Silvia Violet created a great series. Some very interesting characters. Michael Dean had the right voice for the characters. Book can stand on its own and in my opinion even better that the first.

Morally ambiguous characters
I’m not always a fan of mob books. Anything that glorifies violence and criminal behavior has to be taken with a grain of salt, so to speak. Or in this case a cup of flour as there is serious baking involved. Man, my mouth was watering at all the Italian treats. Made me want to run to the bakery. Alas, it’s too far from here so I had to simply enjoy reading about all those carbs.
Angelo and Lucien and brothers. Devil was born around the same time as Angelo so although he’s a cousin, he’s like close family as well. Lucien has taken over as head of the family business with his lover Peter by his side. Peter understands this is a devil’s bargain, as it were, and accepts his role. That was book 1. Book 2 finds Angelo calling a debt owed by a reprobate. A reprobate who has died under mysterious circumstances. A reprobate who left everything to his son. A son Angelo knew from high school.
Cameron left town a long time ago and never intended to look back. When his father is killed, he plans to come home, sell the bakery, and move back out west. Except things are never quite that easy. He’s overwhelmed by nostalgia for the way the bakery was when his grandparents were alive and running it. He decides to restore it and run it the way it used to be. Except now he’s discovered his father was heavily indebted to the mob and Angelo is there to collect the debt.
I love morally ambiguous characters and Angelo is that. The extortion made me uncomfortable, as did the D/s relationship that felt a bit forced. Cameron suddenly obeying Angelo in his sexual demands felt…off. But then this book wasn’t meant to make me feel good. In the end, Cameron winds up making the same devil’s bargain and gets in bed with the mob. I didn’t read Lucien and I have yet to read Devil and I will read both, but with the same lens of this isn’t really right. Yes, these guys are doing some good things and yes, they’re only killing ‘bad’ guys. Killing is still violence that we don’t necessarily need these days – so consider yourself warned.
Michael Dean narrated the book and he brought that extra something special that he always does. Like I said, I’ll pick up the other books in the series as well as I did enjoy most of this one.

So intense...
This book is so good... The story caught me since the beginning and I couldn't stop reading until I finished it. With this wicked and complex plot, Ms Violet bent the line between love and hate with such an intensity that in some parts, I cried, in others I suffered with Cameron or ached with Angelo and in others I got so frustrated that I just wanted to stop reading but I simply couldn't. Difficult to read with a lot of angst, mainly because the masterful way the author described the emotions of the characters, and how their dialogues and interactions led them to heartwarming but at the same time heartbreaking situations. A book so good, needed an outstanding voice actor who was able to managed all the emotional rollercoaster, going from hate and angst, to the tenderness and love, and Mr Dean was the perfect choice. His work made everything more intense if possible... So, so good...

Entertaining...

Angelo is book 2 in the Marchesi Family series and I guess it could be read as a standalone. We get enough background information that you don't need to read Lucien, although I suggest you read it for maximum enjoyment.
I loved Angelo. I don't care if he was a mobster and as such did questionable things, he was also loyal, protective, caring, and sweet, even if the way he went about things with Cameron skirted the dubcon line. Cameron, on the other hand, I wanted to kick more than a few times. He was just so stubborn and difficult and I was so frustrated with him. He was so judgmental about Angelo's family from when they were in high school and I, for one, was happy when he realized he'd placed the blame on the wrong party, and even if Angelo could let go of that, I found it difficult to do so myself. What can I say? I hold grudges. LOL Frankly speaking, while I could appreciate how hot Cameron and Angelo were together, I never really thought Cameron deserved Angelo. *shrugs*
Michael Dean did a great job with both the main characters and the supporting cast. And the book was entertaining, even if I felt the secondary storyline and very hot, so there's that. I can't wait for Devil's book, though.

Romance that Sizzles
Angelo is the second book in The Marchesi Family series, and can easily be read as a standalone, although I found it much more fun reading it directly after Lucien, the first book in the series.
Angelo, or Angel as everyone calls him, is brother of the The Marchesi Family head and one of the most trusted enforcers. Angel knows how to get a job done, and he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. When his high school crush comes back to Boston, Angel immediately knows what he has to do: make Cameron his. High school had been a tough time for both Angel and Cam, but now Angel finally has a second chance. Cam moved back to Boston after his father was murdered and left the family bakery to him. Although his childhood had been less than desirable, Cam still has fond memories of his loving grandparents and the bakery they devoted their lives to. Unfortunately, Cam’s no-good, dead father messed up the financial standing of the bakery and now Cam finds himself in debt to the one person he can’t stand: Angel. It’s a rocky start, but soon these two men realize how perfect they are for each other.
I loved this book. Angel and Cameron’s relationship was intense and full of fire – Angel demanded and Cameron pushed back, both of them loving the fight and Cam’s eventual submission. But even with all that friction in their sex lives, their relationship had it’s sweet and tender moments as the two men fell in love with each other. There was a lot of action and drama in this book, and Silvia Violet did not flinch away from mafia-level violence. These men are in the mob and dangerous, deadly things happen in that world.
Michael Dean narrated the audiobook and did a spectacular job. The voices for the characters were perfect and consistent, and I had no trouble differentiating who was speaking. Michael put so much energy into his voice during the sex and action scenes. I was either on the edge of my seat, or fanning myself from hot the performance was. I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and definitely recommend it.

Cameron's Guardian Angel
This is the second in my new favourite trilogy and Michael Dean does an excellent job of bringing the guys and a couple of ladies to life. This one was just as much fun as the first one mixing a dominant mafia bad boy and a burnt-out former lawyer turned baker with a scary hot result.
I'm very much looking forward to the third and final book in the trilogy about cousin Devil (real name is the best-kept family secret!) as he's such a counterpoint to Angel and they've made a bit of a mess that needs dealing with... no spoilers!

Left me in awe
The second book in the series was no less awe inspiring as the first book, the author wrote this series to leave what I feel the reader impacted and the narrator done a stunning job of ensuring we got that impact when listening tot he story as well.
No one who listens to this book will be sorry.

Perfection
I never thought this would be one series for me. I tend to like my stories, even my enemies to lovers stories, a little .... fluffier. But Violet wrote these books in such a way that the mob family and their partners/relationships are still sorta sweet. The characters, while not outright lovable, are still ones that I enjoyed and loved watching find their HEA. Personally, as a character, I liked Angelo less than Lucian, but I still LOVED his story.
I absolutely love Michael Dean as a narrator. His book have such emotion and grit (when necessary). This book fits perfectly into his range and he does and outstanding job bringing out all the emotions of the story!
I can’t wait to read Devil’s book!!

Another great entry in the series
Both the main characters in this book are fighting desperately not to acknowledge or act on their true selves. Angelo has to always appear tough and untouchable within the family or risk losing his power, position and possibly his life and Cameron has to resist his long standing feelings for Angelo that could cost him everything he and his family have built. Watching these two work toward a loving relationship through all the stuff going on around and inside them is sad, angsty and hot as everything. A great tale on the hate/love, enemies/lovers trope. Michael Dean's performance was spot on. The accents were well done, the characters were all clearly differentiated and most importantly, the emotional beats were all hit with just the right amount of angst to be believable and not over the top.

Sizzling!
okay, brothers can be similar and Angel and Lucien have very similar"tastes" but a few chapters in those similarities shift and the many layers to Angelo begin to be unveiled. I will admit I questioned the dubious concent early on and the unique "arrangement" Angel makes with Cam but really this is a second chance/highschool crush to lovers story with a wicked and sexy bad boy with a good heart and at its core is a (extremely) passionate lust to forever love story. Mobsters deserve love too 😉
A thoughly enjoyable read and I'm just itching for Devil's story...
