Alex S. Vitale is Professor of Sociology at Brooklyn College and coordinator of the Policing and Social Justice Project there. He has spent the last 25 years writing about policing, beginning with his civil rights work for the San Francisco Coalition on Homelessness in the early 1990's. In addition to academic research, he consults both police departments and human rights organizations internationally and serves on the New York State Advisory Committee of the US Commission on Civil Rights. Prof. Vitale is a frequent essayist, whose writings have appeared in the NY Daily News, NY Times, The Nation, USA Today, VICE, and The New Inquiry. Prof. Vitale earned his Ph.D. from the City University of New York Graduate Center.
