William "Bill" Bee enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2000 and served four years with Lima Company, Third Battalion Sixth Marine Regiment as an infantry rifleman, or "Grunt" as a platoon radio operator and as a Scout Swimmer. He completed multiple deployments to Afghanistan and one to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He would meet his wife Bobbie during his next tour serving as a recruiter in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Following his successful tour on recruiting he was assigned back to the Sixth Regiment, this time with Alpha Company of the First Battalion in 2007. During his time with Alpha Company William worked as a Squad Leader among some of the most capable warriors the Marine Corps had, many outclassing Bill in both experience and ability, in two major operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In 2008 he would be photographed by Reuters Photographer Goran Tomašević in a photo that would be seen around the world, while his was pregnant with his son. In 2010 during the battle for Marjah he was wounded by an IED which would cause half of his squad to be sent to a hospital via CASEVAC bird. He would spend the next three years preparing Navy Corpsman for service with Marines while undergoing physical and mental therapy. He left the Marine Corps in 2013, his multiple TBI's causing memory problems precluding continuing service. After his service William worked as a Veterans Benefits Advisor counseling Marines and Sailors as they navigated their transition from military to civilian life. He now works helping to train Marines on ranges using robotic targets and enjoys riding his Indian Motorcycle, playing his guitar (badly), and spends every moment he can with his wife and son, just living the dream.
