A born traveller. A born writer. Not sure which order of importance. My heroine, early on, became the writer, adventurer, diplomat, Arabist - Gertrude Bell. Like her I feel "as comfortable sitting in a palace with kings as I do squatting with nomads in a tent in the desert." Or, in my case, squatting with indigenous tribes in the mountains of the Philippines and Costa Rica! I have lived and worked in many countries, as a writer, a model, an actress, a TV presenter, a columnist, a radio producer, a humanitarian aid worker, an environmentalist, a journalist and an author. Now I can add to that list - babysitter for my three grandchildren. My first book, also co-authored with Phillip Knightley, entitled "An Affair of State" went on to become a number one best-seller. This book, "How the English Establishment Framed Stephen Ward" is an updated version. Andrew Lloyd-Weber was so inspired by the evidence provided in our books that Stephen Ward was victimized by the government, the police force and the judiciary that he turned the story into a musical, "Stephen Ward". The QC Geoffrey Robertson is also using the evidence we provide to have Stephen Ward's case referred to the Court of Criminal Appeal to have his conviction overturned. If this happens all those years of research will have been worth it. And finally, after several years of procrastination, I have completed my autobiography so the persistent nagging of my children would turn to praise! “I’ll Be There - Vignettes of an Intrepid Traveller” sums up the many incarnations I have experienced during the last 70 years. Now, it is finally time to settle down with my daughters and grandchildren. But then, who knows, maybe there’s still another adventure ahead! "I'll Be There - Vignettes of an Intrepid Traveller" has won Second Place in the 2024 Book Fest Awards, in the categories of Adventure, Travel, Destinations and Self Discovery.
