Chess grew up in a small town in rural Georgia. He was raised by grounded and humble parents who were not perfect but who always loved him and made him feel special. He never felt as if he were blessed with exceptional abilities, but he always found a way to make the most of his God-given talents. Chess grew up playing team sports and loved being a positive influence on his teammates. He believes his gift or his “edge” has been his ability to influence those around him to use their talents to become better versions of themselves. Chess is a 1978 graduate of the University of Georgia, and he worked in various leadership roles for Primerica, the largest financial services marketing organization in North America, for more than 36 years. He served as the company’s chief marketing officer from 2010 to June 2018, and was pleased that his advice and wisdom were sought throughout his career by CEOs, executives, highly successful members of the sales force, the management team, employees, and their representatives. Chess has spent a lifetime studying successful people from all walks of life. He believes his observations, which have proven to be invaluable in his own journey, will help his readers become better versions of who they were meant to be, no matter what career or life path they are on.
