From a very young age, it was clear that I would be a doctor studying the mind through psychology and connection to medicine. I was fascinated and motivated to learn everything I could about these areas and was encouraged by a very wise woman that already had tremendous expertise in these areas. She mentored me until I started college and I started with a new mentor in my first year of graduate school. I was getting a PhD in psychology while being mentored by an MD that had a degree in psychology. We had a lot in common besides that he was 75 when I met him and I was 21. He was a student and teacher as well as a wonderful human being. He entered his areas of expertise and became a world-renowned expert as a result of having polio as a young teen, had chronic pain, he was told his life would probably end before he was 20. I got into the same field and had the good fortune of his tutelage as a result of my back pain that was congenital as I was born missing parts of my back in the areas of L-4 and L-5. We were both given a poor prognosis that motivated us more than stopped us. More than mind-body healing, mindfulness, meditation, medical hypnosis, biology, psychology and sociology grew an essential need to understand how the mind can help the body, emotions, healing, pain control, health and happiness. It took years to go from being in pain most of the time to being free of pain most of the time. It then took decades to learn what I needed to know to help others, teach doctors (both MD's and PhD's) and I'm still learning. I'm writing my 9th book now and my first 8 are in the areas of helping people tap into their inner resources to help with many inner and outer challenges, too. Most of my books are for people who would love to help themselves. I also have a text book for doctors to help their patients and clients.
