Elena K. Abbott is a Seattle-based historian, author, and editor. She is the author of Beacons of Liberty: International Free Soil and the Fight for Racial Justice in Antebellum America (Cambridge University Press, 2021). Elena received her BA in History from Occidental College and her PhD from Georgetown University. Her current scholarship focuses on slavery and emancipation in the Atlantic world, illuminating the profound impact that the movement of people and ideas across international borders had on the fight for freedom and racial justice in the United States. Elena writes books for readers of all ages, and she is the founder of Ink Blotter, where she supports the author community as an independent editor. When she's not in her office, Elena can usually be found adventuring in the outdoors or snuggling up to her two feline fur-babies.
