I am a baby boomer who was fortunate to be born into a family in Perth Western Australia. My brother and two sisters grew up in a close knit family where 4 generations regularly interacted. We were always aware that my grandmother’s husband had not been around since the just after the Great War. It wasn’t something that was talked about really, at least not until after my grandmother had passed. We were very close to her. She never lost her Scottish accent either. I taught Industrial Arts in the state high school system (photography being my passion) for nearly 30 years before significantly burning out. At the same time, I put in 33 years as a volunteer ambulance officer, and first aid trainer with St John Ambulance WA. With my wife, we also ran a sheep farm near my home town of Mount Barker. I took up writing by accident really. I had been researching my grandfather’s war service in an effort to give my ageing mother some answers about her father.. she knew nothing of him, other than some photographs she had. The information gained certainly answered many of the questions surrounding his situation. Once I had all the material from the research, it seemed like a good idea at the time, to put it all into a written record. Once this was done I was bitten by the writing bug and decided to continue. There are now two more awaiting completion.
