Gary Beene (1951 - ) grew up on a farm in southern New Mexico. At Las Cruces High School he studied the 440-yard dash and continued that study in college with ten hurdles thrown in. He was not much of a student, but he could run sure enough. People used to say "Gary has wheels!" ...Now he just has flat tires. Gary made the decision to retire in 2008 in order to spend more time pursuing his white water boating, scuba diving, and golf passions. However, as the nation's political discourse became more vitriolic, he decided to add his voice to the chorus for kindness. The retirement lasted all of about one month when he began working ten-hour days on THE SEEDS WE SOW, KINDNESS THAT FED A HUNGRY WORLD. (The second edition of this book was released in 2016 under the title THE SEEDS WE SOW: A STORY OF THE GREATEST KINDNESS - available in eBook format.) His second book, GOD'S AVATARS: THE BETRAYAL OF BELIEF, was more difficult to write on a whole host of levels. Dealing with some of humanity's darker motives, it took more time and more emotion than a story about kindness. Both books share important albeit very different messages about the human condition. After taking a year-long break from writing, Gary began work on his first novel. During that time a United States President finally officially acknowledged the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire in 1915. Gary released a short non-fiction book about this atrocity. THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE: A BRIEF HISTORY is available in Kindle format. ALIEN GENESIS is Gary's first novel. It was released by Next Chapter Publishing in April 2022. It is available worldwide in multiple electronic book formats as well as paperback, large print, and hardcover. After 30 years working in the fields of Vocational Rehabilitation and Special Education, Gary retired as the State Director of the New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He and his wife, Carla, enjoy life at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Gary states that for him kindness did not always come naturally. He says, "I was one of those poor saps who had to do a lot of personal work before understanding that only the merest quarter-turn of the heart separates us from life's abundance."
