Heather was born in York and went to University at Kings College in London, where she studied Mathematical Physics and Astrophysics as she wanted to understand the meaning of life, the universe and her place within it. After university she trained to be a Patent Attorney, a career she followed for 20 years. Tiring of this she decided to train as a yoga teacher and this brought her into contact with her meditation teacher Rob Nairn. She began training in meditation with Rob Nairn in 2004 and in that year she took refuge with Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche and became a Buddhist in the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. From 2007 to 2009 she studied to gain a Post Graduate Diploma in Mindfulness Based Approaches from the University of Bangor, Wales. In 2009 she was asked by Rob Nairn to join the teaching team on his first Mindfulness course and in 2010 she gave up her career as a Patent Attorney to focus her life and work on practicing and teaching Mindfulness, Compassion and Insight meditation. In this and in her Buddhist practice she is continuing to follow her aspiration to understand the meaning of life, the universe and her place within it. In 2010 she co-founded the Mindfulness Association CIC and is a Director of this organisation and responsible for its day to day running. She is a Mindfulness, Compassion and Insight teacher and leads the team that developed and delivers the Mindfulness teacher training program to teach the Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC). In this work her aspiration is to relieve some of the needless suffering that our negative and repetitive thinking causes and to support the cultivation of qualities of kindness, compassion and joy which enable us to find internal stability and to flourish in our lives. Heather is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Aberdeen and was involved in the development of the Masters program in Studies in Mindfulness at the University of Aberdeen, which is a collaboration with the Mindfulness Association and also teaches on the program. The Masters degree explores the application of Mindfulness, Compassion and Insight practice in multiple professional contexts and began in 2010 and has just recruited its ninth cohort of students. Heather completed her dissertation in 2013 and has a Masters degree in Studies in Mindfulness from the University of Aberdeen. Heather lives happily in the countryside just outside Lockerbie in South West Scotland, with her husband Mark and their three dogs Nutmeg, Holly and Daisy. She has one daughter who is at university in Manchester. She is a great fan of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, both the books and the movies. Living near Lockerbie, she is close to her spiritual home, Samye Ling Tibetan Monastery, which she visits regularly to practice, attend courses and retreats, to teach and to visit her spiritual teacher Choje Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche. As part of her Buddhist practice she attends annual Mahamudra teachings in India with Tai Situpa Rinpoche.
