*Another update as of November 22: aside from winning four awards at BOOKFEST 2023, I'm pleased to announce Ace on the Hill won the top prize in the Coming-of-Age fiction category at the BIBA (Best Indie Book Awards) earlier this month. Now, my info: Reader first, then writer. Isn’t that the way it is for most of us—even the most accomplished authors? How else do we develop a passion for words? Attended Syracuse University and missed an opportunity to learn creative writing from one of the greats in Raymond Carver. Stayed with my Broadcast Journalism major, which eventually helped me land documentary work (A&E, History Channel) in the 1990s/early 2000s. Enjoyed those stories but felt I wasn’t tapping into my ever-active imagination. A change of location and career led me to the field of education where I learned as much as I taught! During this time, I began working on “Ace on the Hill”—a story inspired by childhood events, my love of Boston sports, and a screenplay I wrote many years ago in a Santa Monica apartment where rumor has it, Charlie Chaplin once lived. While silence may have been golden in those days, I’m all for you giving me a shout with your thoughts on this, my first novel. Enjoy! JCW
