Jane Lanahan Decker graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2000 and worked with the firm of Gail B. Baldwin, Architect, Inc. for nearly fifteen years, acting as project architect for many South Florida projects, including the Mayfair Hotel and Spa Renovation, the Grand Bay Tower, and the 2222 Biscayne Office Tower project concept. She pursued her Master of Science in Real Estate Development from Nova Southeastern University in 2011 to understand the finance side of development and why it was so hard to bring projects up and out of the ground. In 2019, she completed a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration with the University of Central Florida and is a 2022 Graduate of the Emerging Leaders Development Program with ICMA (International City/County Managers’ Association). Jane is currently the building department director for the City of Doral, one of the fastest growing cities in Florida, according to Time magazine. She joined Doral in 2012 and found a love and passion for public service and the ability to bridge the gap between AEC professionals and the municipality in which they build. Jane is a licensed code official and floodplain manager and has been published in ICMA’s PM Magazine and the online Blue Courage Illuminate® Journal. Jane continues to speak publicly about engaging with jurisdictions, helping developers navigate the nuances of permitting and coordinating with local building officials to offer better customer service to their permit applicants. Jane also enjoys exploring process improvement strategies and technology implementations, having just completed 2021 permitting system launch with the city and a subsequent upgrade. In Spring 2022, Jane was appointed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB), which governs the licensing and rulemaking for code officials throughout the state. She is a past president of the local chapter of the South Florida Building Officials Association where she was voted Member of the Year in 2019 and 2021, and she is the current co-chair of their annual charity golf tournament benefitting the I Have a Dream Foundation Miami. Jane is married and lives in Florida with her husband, daughter, and two rescue pups. In her free time, Jane enjoys traveling, playing golf, and cooking with the family.
