Jennifer Butler is committed to amplifying the connection between faith and social justice, has the heart of a community organizer, and is an ordained minister. She founded and led Faith in Public Life from 2005-2022. From 2014-2016 she also chaired President Obama's White House Council on Faith and Neighborhood Partnerships. Today she speaks and consults on religion and democracy. Follow her current work at www.RevJenButler.com. Jennifer spent ten years working in the field of international human rights representing the Presbyterian Church (USA) at the United Nations. While mobilizing religious communities to address the AIDS pandemic and advocate for women's rights, she grew passionate about the need to counter religious extremism with a strong religious argument for human rights. Her experience countering the Christian right's attack on women's rights led her to write Born Again: The Christian Right Globalized (2006), one of the first works documenting the globalization of the American Christian right. Jennifer served in the Peace Corps in a Mayan village in Belize, Central America. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, she also studied public policy and community organizing and graduated with a MSW from Rutgers University.
