Jess Wells is the author of seven novels and five books of short stories, an editor of anthologies of fiction and social commentary and a blogger on forgotten women in history. Her latest work is "Dancing in a Deluge", a tale of a lapsed nun given a chance to rescue peasants from impending danger. Her work "Jaguar Paloma and the Caketown Bar", won the Silver Nautilus Book Award for Fiction. It is a novel of magical realism set in a southern shantytown that had been founded by two extraordinary women fleeing repression. Her previous work, "Straight Uphill: A Tale of Love and Chocolate" won the 2020 Foreword Reviews Indies Bronze Award for Adult Fiction/Romance. She is a recipient of a San Francisco Arts Commission Grant for Literature, a four-time finalist for the Lambda Literary Award, and a member of the Saints and Sinners Literary Festival Hall of Fame. Her short stories have been included in more than three dozen literary anthologies, and her work has been published in England and translated into Italian and Dutch.
