John Sodeau was born within the sound of Bow Bells, in principle. But they had been bombed and not yet replaced. He lived close to there in East London until academic studies in Chemistry took him from Southampton to Newport Beach in California to the University of East Anglia in Norwich. Finally, he moved to Cork City in Ireland where he is an Emeritus Professor living on the Irish coastline. He is sometimes described as an air pollution and climate change campaigner because of his various activities on radio and in newspapers.   Field Lane is the first novel in a trilogy called Streets of Dickens. Although he has written many hundreds of thousands of published words before in research journals, books and grant proposals, Field Lane is his first entry into the world of historical fiction.
