Ever since Jon Peters was six years old, all he ever wanted to do was play baseball. And that’s pretty much all he did. And he got really good at it. His dream was to be the best pitcher in the whole, wide world. When he was eighteen years old, Jon became the first high school baseball player to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated. In 1989, he became the United States’ record holder for the most consecutive wins (fifty-three) by a high school pitcher, a record that still stands today. His high school career ended with a record of fifty-four wins and one loss. Following high school, Jon attended Texas A&M University on a baseball scholarship. His dream quickly became a distant memory after enduring his fourth arm surgery. Jon was born and raised in Brenham, TX. In May 1989, he became the first high school baseball player to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated for becoming the United States’ record holder for the most consecutive wins (51) by a high school pitcher. He appeared regularly on local and national media outlets such as CNN, Good Morning America, The Today Show, and ESPN as well as in local and national magazines and newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, Houston Chronicle, and Dallas Morning News. Jon attended Brenham High School where he was a major contributing factor to a baseball program that won three consecutive Class 4A State Baseball Championships. Following high school, he attended Texas A&M University on a baseball scholarship. After enduring four arm surgeries and months of rehabilitation, he became an undergraduate assistant coach at A&M. His achievements at McMurry not only focused on baseball but sharing his story with young men desiring to display honesty, integrity, accountability, and work ethic.
